Related Service, Intervention, Health & Guidance
Related Services:
Learning First provides a wide range of related services to support our students in fully accessing both the academic and nonacademic parts of their day. The related service team is a group of licensed, highly trained specialized providers who serve as a support for the students, classroom teachers, and families at our school. Services can be delivered in many formats including direct service with students and consultation with teachers, students, and families.
Our related service team includes:
School Psychology
The school psychologist supports children academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents and professionals to create a safe and supportive learning environment that strengthens connections between home, school and the community. The school psychologist provides a range of services, including conducting student evaluations, serving as a member of the student support and guidance teams, and assisting teachers with strategies and plans regarding behavioral and social emotional needs. Additional services include school based counseling, that may include plans and interventions to support students to demonstrate growth and success within the classroom setting. The school psychologist is also a member of the emergency response team and is an integral part of crisis intervention.
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Occupational therapists are allied health professionals who are part of the educational team. The OT supports a student’s ability to complete daily school activities. The therapist supports academics (reading and writing), non-academics (social skills, regulation, emotional, and daily living activities) and extracurricular activities (recess and school groups). OT services can occur out of class, in class, and via consultation with teachers, students and caregivers. Home plans will also be provided as needed.
Orientation and Mobility Services (O & M)
A Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist provides direct and consultative services for students with visual impairments to support the students in using sensory information to learn how to move safely and travel in any environment as independently as possible.
Physical Therapy (PT)
School physical therapists focus on a child’s ability to move as independently as possible in the school environment. The school physical therapist evaluates the child’s ability to move throughout the school and to participate in classroom activities. Interventions are designed to enable the student to travel throughout the school environment; participate in classroom activities; maintain and change positions in the classroom; as well as manage stairs, restrooms, and the cafeteria. Physical therapy can be done by working with the student in their classroom, hallways, PE class, recess, or in the physical therapist’s room.
Speech & Language Therapy
Speech and Language therapy focuses on supporting communication challenges that impact a student's ability to access the curriculum and succeed academically within the classroom environment. Services can support a students ability to make developmentally expected and educationally necessary speech sounds (articulation) and language acquisition. The Speech and Language teachers and other school staff to integrate therapy goals into the student's daily learning experience.

Academic Intervention Services:
Learning First provides comprehensive MTSS services, including intensive reading and math intervention services from our Academic Intervention team. Students are identified for this program through school-wide data examination and progress monitoring. We use evidenced based programs and approaches to help students close learning gaps in both math and ELA. Families will always be notified and must give consent for their child to participate in any pull-out academic support.

Health Services:
Health services include all of the services provided by the school nurse including: the administration of required medications, assessing students with possible health impairments or those who report to the nurse’s office complaining of various ailments, and consulting with parents and staff about the impact of conditions that may affect learning.
In addition to services provided by the nurse, Learning First provides comprehensive health education to all students in grades K-8 and partners with community providers to improve access to dental and medical services for our students.

The Guidance Program at Learning First Charter Public School is dedicated to supporting the academic, emotional, and social development of every student. Our experienced counselors and SEL interventionist provide a range of services, including individual counseling, group sessions, and classroom guidance lessons, to help students navigate the challenges of school life and build essential skills for their future. Additionally, the guidance team consults with classroom staff, families, and administration to support in context strategies and school-wide mental health supports.
We work closely with students, families, and staff to promote a positive, supportive school environment where every student feels valued and empowered to succeed. Whether addressing academic concerns, personal development, or college and career readiness, our guidance program is here to help students grow both inside and outside the classroom.
